If you want to experience giant showers and immerse with nature while relaxing and unwinding; then, Kawasan Falls is the place to go!
The water is so cold- that it would make your brain freeze and let you forget all the worries that cause you stress. You can also have your body massaged by the falling water and it is so refreshing and relaxing. The sound of the waterfalls is like a song with a perfect rhythm and tune; hypnotizing you to close your eyes and float in the wilderness of your dreams.
What a truly relaxing and soothing feeling!
Here is one of the “Budget Travels in the Philippines” that I have experienced.
Where is it located?
Kawasan Falls is located in a small town called Matutinao of Badian; in the Southern part of Cebu province, Philippines. It is 111.4 kilometres away from Cebu City and 14.2 Kilometers away from Lambug Beach.
How to reach Kawasan Falls?
There are international flights direct to Mactan International Airport, Lapu Lapu City, Cebu Province of the Philippines.
Another route to reach Cebu Province could be a connecting flight from Manila, the capital of the Philippines, then to Mactan International Airport, Lapu Lapu City, Cebu Province.
You can either choose to stay in a hotel in Cebu City or in Lapu Lapu City. There are lots of hotels to choose from ranging from five to four stars or just an economy accommodation for back packers.
From your hotel or direct from the airport, you have to go to South Bus Terminal; either thru taxi or by a public jeepney. You can ask your hotel front desk or the airport authorities on what is the best way to reach South Bus Terminal.
Then ride a bus in South Bus Terminal, either air con or non – air con, to Badian. Air con bus fare is 170 Philippine Pesos (approximately $3.60 US dollars). Non – air con bus is lower. Travel time is about three hours and forty-five minutes to four hours. Just inform the fare collector who rides along the bus that you are heading for Kawasan Falls and to make a stop at Matutinao, Badian. From there, Kawasan Falls is a 20 to 25 minute walk.
You might notice upon disembarking from the bus that some locals are offering their services as your guide for a 200 Philippine Peso (approximately $3.80 US dollars) fee. If you are not traveling light, that is your best option. They will be your guide, carry your baggage and find a good spot for you as well- in that way, you can fully enjoy the scenery while heading to the falls. However, if you can manage to carry your things and loves adventure, there’s no need to spend for a guide and save it for the environmental fee or entrance of 45 Philippine Peso (approximately $0.86 US dollars). Just follow the trail and some small billboards giving you directions or just like in the old days, the water will tell you where it is heading and also where the source is- in no time, you’ll be at your destination.
The Kawasan Falls is composed of three from the source. The third falls is where you can enjoy much of what nature has to offer but it’s fun and exciting to explore all the three sites.
When going to Kawasan Falls, some would prefer to pass by Lambug Beach first and then on the next day proceed to Kawasan Falls. If this is the route that you would like to take, you may check my article about Lambug Beach for details. It is just around 25 to 30 minute drive from Lambug Beach to Kawasan Falls. The motorcycle fare would be 75 Philippine pesos/passenger (approximately $1.44 US dollars).
Others would like to go directly to Kawasan Falls from Cebu City in which case, just refer on the above details on how to reach Kawasan Falls.
There are open cottages with table for rent for day tourist for only 500 Philippine Peso (approximately $9.50 US dollars). For overnight stay, the cottages would range from 2000 to 3500 Philippine Pesos ($39 to $68 US dollars).
How about the food?
Food is not a problem. There are lots of small restaurants or “carenderias” available in the area near Kawasan Falls. You may also bring your own food like canned goods or any ready to eat food that you had bought. There are also delicious native Filipino dishes that you could try.
How about the people?
People or the locals around the area are so friendly. Filipinos are known to be very hospitable and the government is supporting and promoting tourism
How about the activities?
If you like adventures then you can try canyoneering. The “Kawasan Canyoneering” is an accredited canyoneering guide since 2015. They highly value your safety for you to have a memorable experience in your adventure.
